Chris Brown – Songs On 12 Play (feat. Trey Songz) (2014)

J’ai écouté le nouvel album de Chris Brown, « X », sorti le 16 septembre dernier. Pas mal. De jolies surprises. Dont le très sympathique « Songs On 12 Play », dans lequel Breezy, accompagné par Trey Songz, rend un hommage appuyé au grand R. Kelly (d’ailleurs présent sur un autre morceau de l’album) en citant plusieurs de ses classiques.

Contrairement à ce que le titre pourrait laisser penser, Chris Brown ne mentionne pas uniquement les morceaux de l’album « 12 Play » (1993). Et franchement, c’est très apprécié. Parce que quand on lit les commentaires de sa fanbase sur YouTube, beaucoup ne reconnaissent pas les nombreux clins d’œil lancés tout au long du morceau. En espérant que ça les incitera à creuser un peu plus. Après tout, R. Kelly est quand même le roi du R&B contemporain, il est toujours en activité, et ce n’est pas compliqué de découvrir sa discographie avec un minimum d’effort. (les années 90 c’est pas si loin bon sang!).

Et Trey Songz qui participe au morceau… haha il a fini par capituler. N’est pas successeur (et encore moins l’égal) de Kellz qui veut. En attendant, on s’incline et on rend hommage haha.
